Emma is a Resident in Counseling with a strong foundation in clinical mental health. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Sweet Briar College in May 2021 and completed her Master of Arts and Educational Specialist (M.A./Ed.S.) degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from James Madison University in May 2025.
Emma brings valuable experience from both university and community-based outpatient settings. During her practicum, she provided individual counseling to college students in a university counseling center. Her internship expanded her scope to include both individual and group counseling in a community mental health setting, where she worked with a diverse range of clients.
Her clinical interests include supporting individuals through Anxiety, Depression, Substance use, Major life transitions, Body Dysmorphia, Autism, Aging, Chronic Medical Conditions, LGBTQ+ community and Life Transitions. Emma has experience working with clients across the lifespan—from young children as young as three to older adults—and enjoys the unique perspectives and strengths each age group brings.
Emma’s therapeutic approach is developmentally informed and integrative. With young children, she utilizes play therapy to help them process experiences in a psychologically safe and age-appropriate way. For adolescents and adults, she leans into an interpersonal approach that emphasizes the therapeutic relationship as a tool for insight and growth. She also incorporates Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Systems Theory, expressive arts and somatic interventions to support holistic healing.
Emma chose the counseling profession because of her deep love for listening and her belief in the healing power of being truly heard. She strives to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe to explore their inner worlds and move toward meaningful change.
Outside of her clinical work, Emma enjoys crafting—especially sewing—along with baking and reading. She has developed a deep appreciation for the Shenandoah Valley and loves spending time outdoors, soaking in the beauty of the surrounding mountains.
