Therapist
Brittany Sehenuk, EdS, LPC

Brittany Sehenuk (she/they), Licensed Professional Counselor, is a compassionate and collaborative therapist who believes that meaningful counseling begins with genuine human connection. Originally from Pennsylvania, Brittany earned their Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Art from Eastern Mennonite University in 2015 and later completed both their Master of Arts, and Educational Specialist degrees (M.A., Ed.S.) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at James Madison University in 2022. Grounded in a person-centered approach, she strives to create a warm, accepting, and nonjudgmental therapeutic environment where clients feel safe exploring their experiences, understanding patterns, and working toward meaningful and sustainable change.

With more than five years of experience working with adolescents and adults, Brittany has provided individual and group counseling as well as crisis support across a variety of clinical settings. She has also facilitated specialized groups, including experiential Ecotherapy and LGBTQIA+ affinity groups, creating opportunities for clients to build connection, belonging, self-awareness, and a stronger sense of community.

Brittany works with adolescents ages 14–17 and adults ages 18–64. Her clinical experience includes supporting clients navigating anxiety, ADHD, OCD, trauma and PTSD, grief and loss, self-esteem concerns, family conflict, school and workplace stress, life transitions, identity development, and the emotional impact of chronic or life-limiting medical conditions. They also have extensive experience working with multicultural and family-of-origin concerns, LGBTQIA+ experiences, sexual trauma, and the unique challenges experienced by individuals from diverse and historically marginalized communities. Brittany approaches this work with cultural humility, curiosity, compassion, and respect for each client’s lived experience.

Her clinical style is integrative, collaborative, and individualized to each client’s needs, strengths, identities, and treatment goals. Brittany draws from Narrative, Humanistic, Systemic, and Relational perspectives while incorporating mindfulness-based practices to help clients increase awareness of unhelpful patterns, strengthen self-understanding, and develop greater self-compassion. Her therapeutic approaches may also include Person-Centered Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Existential Therapy, trauma-informed interventions, exposure-based strategies, crisis debriefing, and mindfulness-based therapy.

Creativity and self-expression are also meaningful components of Brittany’s clinical work. With a background in art and training in creative interventions, she may incorporate art-based approaches and other forms of self-expression when clinically appropriate. These interventions can offer clients additional ways to process emotions, explore difficult experiences, build insight, and create meaning when words alone may not fully capture what they are experiencing.

Outside of her clinical work, Brittany enjoys thrifting, spending time in nature, and engaging in creative pursuits. She is proud to call Harrisonburg and the Shenandoah Valley home.
